Liverpool vs Newcastle LIVE commentary: Late kick-off time, team news and how to follow Premier League contest
Liverpool host Newcastle in the Premier League this weekend as they look to end their winless run, exclusively live on talkSPORT.
The Reds’ defeat to Bournemouth last Saturday means it is now five top-flight matches without a victory.

Arne Slot‘s side are in a real battle to secure a Champions League spot now, but their record against Newcastle is very good.
The Reds are unbeaten in the last 18 Premier League contests against the Magpies, and the Toon haven’t won at Anfield in 29 visits.
Eddie Howe‘s side are currently ninth in the Premier League and make the journey to Merseyside off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa.
But while both have endured domestic struggles, the Champions League has been much more favourable for both, though Newcastle did miss out on the top eight.
Both teams could do with three points, which should lead to a great contest.

- Liverpool are looking to complete the Premier League double over Newcastle for the 12th time – it would be the most they’ve done so against a specific opponent in the competition (currently 11, joint with West Ham).
- Liverpool are winless in their last five Premier League games (D4 L1), last having a longer run in a single season between November and January in 2002-03 (11 under Gérard Houllier). Indeed, Liverpool could fail to win each of their opening six league fixtures of a calendar year for the first time since 1954 (first 10) – the last year in which they were relegated.
- Since beating Bournemouth 4-2 on the opening weekend, Liverpool haven’t scored more than twice in any of their last 10 Premier League home games. They’re averaging just 1.45 goals per game at Anfield this term, their lowest in a campaign since 2011-12 (1.26).
- Only Nottingham Forest (7) and Wolves (7) have failed to score in more Premier League away games than Newcastle this season (6). 70% of the Magpies away goals this term (7/10) have come in their two wins on the road (4-1 v Everton, 3-1 v Burnley).
Liverpool vs Newcastle: Team news
Liverpool’s defensive options are very limited.
Jeremie Frimpong limped off during the 6-0 win over Qarabag in midweek and has a hamstring injury.
He joins Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni on the sidelines.
Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez face late fitness tests, meaning Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo might have to drop into defence.
Former Newcastle striker Alexander Isak won’t get the chance to face his old teammates due to a broken leg.
And for the visitors, Bruno Guimaraes should be fit as the Brazilian was an unused substitute in midweek.
But Joelinton is out with a groin injury and joins Tino Livramento, Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth on the treatment table.

- No side has scored more goals in the final 15 minutes of Premier League games this season than Liverpool (13), while only Bournemouth (13) have conceded more in this time frame than Newcastle (12).
- Against no side has Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah been involved in more Premier League goals than he has against Newcastle (19 – 10 goals, 9 assists). An assist in this match will see him become the first player in Premier League history record double figures for both goals and assists against an opponent.
- Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai has had more shots from outside the box than any other player in the Premier League this season (33), while he’s also had the highest percentage from distance among all players to have at least 25 attempts (73% – 33/45).
- Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes has made more defensive line breaking passes than any other player in the Premier League this season (35). Meanwhile, only Granit Xhaka has made more line breaking passes that have led to a goal (8) than the Magpies captain (6).
Liverpool vs Newcastle: What has been said?
Following the win over Qarabag, Slot provided an update on Frimpong.
He said: “It’s obvious that if a player goes out like that, you don’t expect him to play Saturday against Newcastle.”
But there is unlikely to be any transfer action.
“We as a club always make decisions, as we at least think smart decisions.
“So we not only look the short term, we also look at the long term. Longer term, that’s why we sign young players as well.
“Very good players, but young ones that can still develop. Now we can see this development with a few. And it always depends on are there players available that we think can help us? And if they are, can we afford them?
“And does this also be helpful for the longer term future? Because our players come back from injury as well.
“And I just said that we don’t have a squad where we have four right backs and 12 midfielders and three or four number nines. That’s not how it works over here.
“So we have to do smart things for the near future, but also for the longer future. And let’s first see how Jeremie is.”
