Liverpool vs Newcastle betting tips and free bets: Selections for late kick off on Saturday

Liverpool and Newcastle enjoyed good nights in the Champions League on Wednesday and now they meet at Anfield, with attention turned to the race for a top-four spot in the Premier League.

They have already fought out a thriller at St James’ Park this season – Liverpool left it late to win 3-2 in August – and given Newcastle’s poor away form Arne Slot’s side have to be confident of completing a double.

  • Alexis Mac Allister 2+ Fouls @ Evens
  • Race to 5 Corners – Newcastle @ 12/5

Look for a tight start to Anfield action

Liverpool have to be full of confidence as they return to Anfield three days after demolishing Qarabag 6-0 to book a top-eight spot in the Champions League.

Mo Salah scored his first goal for the Reds since November as Liverpool turned on the taps, bouncing back from last week’s 3-2 loss at Bournemouth, which was their only defeat in 15.

And, having already won 3-2 at Newcastle this term, Slot’s side have to feel positive.

Newcastle’s form, in contrast, has been disappointing of late with just one win in six.

However, even they have to be feeling bullish given their last result was a 1-1 draw at European champions Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, a result that demonstrates they can produce away performances when required.

Only two away league wins is a concern and makes the Magpies hard to fancy, though they are more than capable of keeping in the contest.

The Merseysiders are a long way from last season’s side and their half-time record – just eight goals scored in 11 matches – implies they can be stifled.

Newcastle are gung-ho at home but far from it away where they have produced four 0-0 draws in the league.

The Magpies have been level at the break in five of their 11 away ties and can deliver another 45-minute stalemate on Saturday night.

Toon should be wary of Mac The Strife

Alexis Mac Allister showed his scoring side against Qarabag on Wednesday night, grabbing two goals in the 6-0 romp, his first double in three years.

The Argentina midfielder is better known for his drive, his passing and his tackling and, while goals may be hard to come by, tackles are not.

Mac Allister averages over a tackle a game in the Premier League – (closer to 1.5 per game in Europe) – and can be expected to put his foot in to combat Newcastle’s talented engine room where Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes will test the World Cup winner.

Mac Allister should be taken to produce two or more tackles against the Toon in what should be a fiery affair.

Eddie’s aces can corner a profit

Newcastle’s underwhelming away record – two wins from 11 – is not for a lack of intent.

Only Arsenal, Bournemouth and Brentford win more away corners than Eddie Howe’s side, who may struggle for results on their travels but clearly try to be positive.

United win an average 5.5 corners away, barely any less than Liverpool win at home, which makes the 12/5 that Newcastle win a race to five corners massive value.
