Liverpool told to immediately sign £60m Champions League star ‘at all costs’

Jermaine Pennant agrees with Steven Gerrard and says Liverpool should sign Michael Olise as their replacement for Mohamed Salah.

The Reds will mark the end of an era this summer after club legend Salah announced that he will leave at the end of the season.

With 257 goals and 122 assists in 440 appearances, Liverpool will have to sign a world-class talent to fill the void left by the Egyptian.

Speaking to talkSPORT earlier in the month, club legend Gerrard said Olise is his dream replacement for Salah.

And his former teammate Pennant has also called for the Frenchman to be brought in after another stunning display for Bayern Munich.

Olise scored their second in the thrilling 5-4 Champions League semi-final first leg defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

He caused the PSG defence plenty of problems throughout, and did enough for talkSPORT’s Pennant to make his transfer plea.

“Liverpool go out and get Olise right now, at all costs,” he said on X.

“There is your replacement for Mo Salah. AT ALL COSTS. Any amount plus (Cody) Gakpo.”

Olise has been one of the best-performing players in European this season, with 20 goals and 29 assists in 47 outings.

Now in his second year at Bayern, he is on 40 goals and 52 assists in 102 appearances across all competitions.

Chelsea missed out on his signing a year before he made a £60million move from Crystal Palace to Germany in 2024.

Could Liverpool sign Olise this summer?

Liverpool could be the next club to attempt a deal as they look for a successor to Salah.

However, they have been warned that Olise is not a feasible option for them, and that RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande is more realistic.

“In terms of names being that have been bandied around, I just don’t think Michael Olise is realistic,” The Athletic reporter James Pearce told talkSPORT.

“When was the last time someone went to Bayern Munich and arguably plucked one of their best players at his peak out?

“It just doesn’t happen, it only happens for crazy money and I don’t see that happening.

“I think Diomande at Leipzig is probably more realistic and fits the profile more in terms of the type that Liverpool would be looking at.

“But I know from speaking to one of our Bundesliga correspondents at The Athletic, they’re looking at €100m [£87m] minimum – and he’s 19.

“So is that value for someone who has clearly got potential, but is far from the finished article? I don’t think it’s clear yet, the search is on now in terms of reinforcements for the summer.”
