Liverpool board back Arne Slot amid Mohamed Salah’s shock outburst

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has the full backing of the board over Mohamed Salah’s incredible outburst, talkSPORT understands.

There is a major doubt that Salah will travel with the rest of his teammates for Tuesday’s Champions League clash at Inter Milan or play in next weekend’s Premier League game at home to Brighton.

The Egyptian international is due to report for Africa Cup of Nations duty immediately after the Brighton game.

Salah’s claims he has been ‘thrown under the bus’ after being dropped by Slot for the past two games have left the Anfield hierarchy stunned.

The board believe Slot should be given the freedom when it comes to tactical decisions and that players should react to those decisions in a professional manner.

Salah’s explosive rant after Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Leeds, in which he also claimed his relationship with Slot had broken down, has also given Saudi Pro League bosses hope they can sign him in January.

The 33-year-old has not started any of Liverpool’s last three Premier League matches.

Despite playing the second half against Sunderland in midweek, he was an unused substitute at Elland Road.

Last term’s Premier League player of the season has struggled to match his form from the previous campaign.

In 19 appearances across all competitions, Salah has scored five goals and added three assists this season.

However, he has failed to find the target in the league since a strike against Aston Villa back in November 1.

Salah’s bombshell comments

Speaking after the draw with Leeds, Salah explained: “I’m very disappointed, I’ve done so much for this club.

“Everyone has seen it in recent years, especially last season. I don’t know why I’m sitting on the bench.

“It feels like the club is throwing me under the bus, that’s how I feel. I think it’s very clear that someone will blame me.

“The club promised me a lot in the summer, but I’ve been on the bench for three games. I can’t say they’ve kept their promises.”

He also admitted that he feels there is no longer a relationship between himself and Slot.

Salah added: “I have said many times that I have a good relationship with the manager, but suddenly we don’t have a relationship anymore. I don’t know why.”

More to follow.
