LeSean McCoy pours one out for AJ Brown after Eagles-Patriots trade

After months of speculation, the Philadelphia Eagles finally traded AJ Brown to the New England Patriots, closing what had been a testy chapter for the team and the talented yet mercurial wide receiver.

Brown’s last season with the Eagles was anything but ideal, as he saw his role diminish. In the wild-card round against the San Francisco 49ers, Brown had a heated exchange with coach Nick Sirianni. After their loss, the three-time Pro Bowler refused to talk to the media.

His quiet exit at Lincoln Financial Field proved to be symbolic. He will now enter a new chapter after four productive years with the Eagles, including winning a Super Bowl ring in 2025.

NFL analyst LeSean McCoy paid tribute to Brown on “Speakeasy” by literally pouring a drink for him.

“When I got traded, I hoped and prayed they poured something for me, my real dogs,” said McCoy, who played 12 years in the NFL, including six years with the Eagles.

“It’s hard to say goodbye to AJ Brown. The Eagles wouldn’t have had a championship if it weren’t for AJ Brown. The Philadelphia Eagles wouldn’t have been a top offense without AJ Brown. Our quarterback, Jalen Hurts, heavenly Father, wouldn’t have been a Super Bowl MVP winner without AJ Brown. Nick Sirianni, hell of a coach, but I don’t know where you’ll be without AJ Brown.”

Philadelphia acquired the 28-year-old Brown in a draft-day trade with the Tennessee Titans in 2022. He quickly blossomed with the Eagles, becoming a three-time All-Pro Second Team member.

But as they say, all good things come to an end. Unfortunately for the Eagles and Brown, they needed to part ways. It was the necessary move for both sides.

Brown has reunited with coach Mike Vrabel on the Patriots, while filling the void left by Stefon Diggs, who was recently released by the team as a cost-cutting decision.
