Lakers’ Luka Doncic returns to Cavs game after injury scare

The Los Angeles Lakers and their fans had quite a scare on Wednesday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road, when superstar guard Luka Doncic left the game in the first quarter after seemingly hurting his ankle.

“Luka Doncic just appeared to injure his left foot/ankle stepping back on a shot attempt. The court in Cleveland is elevated from the seats, and Doncic stepped backward off the court before going down and grabbing at his right leg,” Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reported via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.

However, Doncic later returned to the bench, allaying fears of a serious injury.

“Luka Doncic has emerged from the locker room in his warmup and is back on the Lakers bench,” Siegel shared.

Doncic appeared to hurt his foot when he slipped off the elevated court after taking a shot from behind the arc.

Fortunately for the former NBA scoring champion (and the Lakers), he did not get seriously injured, as he was back on the floor with 1:30 remaining in the first quarter.

Los Angeles surely needs the Slovenian superstar to be healthy all the time. Coming off an incredible performance in a 129-118 Lakers win against the Chicago Bulls at the United Center in Chicago on Monday, Doncic entered the meeting with the Cavs looking to keep it going.

He dropped 46 points on the Bulls, shooting 15-for-25 from the field and knocking down eight of his 14 attempts from behind the arc, while adding 11 assists and seven rebounds.

A victory over the Cavs will extend the Lakers’ winning streak to three games and improve their record to 29-17.
