Kelsey Plum reveals how she leveled up in a big way after career-high scoring explosion

The Los Angeles Sparks are finally starting to turn the season around. LA is now above .500 at 7-6 after getting huge 111-102 overtime victory over Phoenix on Saturday night. One Sparks player was in rare form and almost single-handedly willed her team to victory.

Sparks guard Kelsey Plum set a new career high with 43 points scored against the Mercury. She revealed one important offseason change that helped her level up her game in 2026.

“In the offseason this year, I really took my weight room strength and conditioning to another level,” Plum said after the game, per ESPN’s Michael Voepel. “Another thing is just mentally I’ve grown and been a lot more patient. I appreciate that Coach gives me the freedom to really go out there and just play.”

Plum went 14-of-26 from the field and 5-of-11 from behind the 3-point line. She was also incredibly efficient from the charity stripe, going 10-of-12. In addition to setting a personal best, Plum also tied the franchise’s single-game scoring record, which is held by retired guard Kristi Toliver.

Mercury forward Kahleah Copper had an explosive night too, also setting a career best in points scored (41). Copper put the pressure on Plum throughout the game to continue scoring points.

Plum and Copper became the first pair of opponents to both score 40+ points in a game in WNBA history, including the postseason.

LA is now on a three-game winning streak and ranks eighth in the WNBA standings. That puts them just inside the playoff picture just past the quarter poll of the regular season.

Next up for the Sparks is a trip to Ballhalla to take on the Valkyries at 10PM ET on Monday night.
