Juan Soto’s new temporary role for Mets amid forearm injury

It has been an unexpectedly rough season for the New York Mets, and the woes continued with Juan Soto’s injury issues that have plagued him throughout the year. Soto missed some time during the Mets’ 12-game losing streak with a calf strain, but returned and helped them break the slump. Now, the Mets’ slugger is dealing with a forearm issue, which has the team putting him in a new role, according to Joe Pantorno via X, formerly Twitter.

“Juan Soto is dealing with forearm tightness after doing defensive work on Friday. Got treatment and played catch yesterday, MRI today came back negative,” Pantorno reported. “Will continue to DH for the next few days.”

Soto’s absence will be felt for the Mets, given their lack of offense this season, as he owns a .304 batting average. His power has taken a bit of a backseat this season, which is concerning for New York, as he has tallied just one home run so far this season. However, with lingering injuries to his calf and forearm, those types of issues could hurt a batter’s power.

The Mets are fortunate that Soto’s bat can remain in the lineup despite the injury, as they are 2-8 over their last 10 games and a dreadful 9-19 overall. It has been a disaster this season for their new acquisitions, and the path back to being contenders in the NL East remains unclear.

While Soto will be in the lineup, whether or not he will be hitting at 100% remains uncertain given the nature of the injury.
