Jose Alvarado’s simple strategy to replicate Game 4 impact in San Antonio
The New York Knicks are one win away from being NBA champions, and they’ll have to come out in Game 5 with the right mentality to close the series. It won’t be easy as they’re back in San Antonio, but they’ve already shown that they can win on the road, taking the first two games.
In the epic Game 4 win, there were several players who stepped up in a big way, and Jose Alvarado was one of the unsung heroes. Mike Brown elected to play him down the stretch alongside Jalen Brunson, which gave the Knicks another ballhandler, as well as a defender who can match up with the Spurs’ guards.
Before Game 5, Alvarado was asked how he could replicate what he did in Game 4.
“Just be Jose. I don’t have to be out here and trying to think I’m anything else. I’ve been doing that the whole time, and I’m going to continue to be who I am,” Alvarado said via SNY Knicks.

That’s all the Knicks want from Alvarado, and that alone should help their chances of winning Game 5.
After Game 4, Karl-Anthony Towns spoke highly of Alvarado and what he brings to the floor.
“Man, when you talk about somebody who not only lives up to the moment but plays with his emotion, and utilizes that to his advantage, that’s a rare quality,” Towns said. “A lot of times, you play with a lot of people and they play with emotion but it gets the better of them. And for Jose, that emotion is what drives him and makes him take it to another level.”
Alvarado has played the same way since he’s been in the league, and anybody would love to have them on their team. When you’re playing against him, you hate him. For the Knicks, they’re happy that he’s on their side.
