Jalen Carter’s eye gouge and throat grab sparks Eagles-Bills scuffle and Nick Sirianni smack talk
Buffalo Bills tackle Spencer Brown endured a chaotic night in Sunday’s 12-13 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The chaos began when Eagles star Jalen Carter poked Brown’s eye before hitting his head and seemingly grabbing his throat.
No penalties were called even though Brown later told reporters he felt that Carter intentionally hit him in the eye.
“No, I don’t think so, but it was coming I guess,” Brown said when asked if the poke was accidental, before also adding his vision was affected.
“Make sure that my vision is still good. I to get checked out after this because it’s still fogged over, just go back out there and try to your job to your best ability.
“It’s just fogged over, so I have to go see the docs after this. But nothing’s broken in there, but it’s still looks like there’s a haze out throughout the room. So just checking it out.”
Carter, who was fined and suspended earlier this season for spitting on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, could face further punishment from the NFL.
The league reviews all plays and announces fines on Saturday, as it regularly issues retrospective punishments even if officials miss the call.
The hit saw Brown temporarily knocked out of the game, with trainers examining him on the field for further evaluation.
He was replaced by teammate Ryan Van Denmark for a few plays before seeing out the conclusion of the defeat.
Brown didn’t seem to forget his hit once the game ended, as he was seen jawing with some Eagles players in the tunnel.
Security had to separate players as Brown exchanged heated words with Carter and lineman Fred Johnson as the two teams walked to their respective locker rooms.
Nick Sirianni beaming with confidence following win
No one was happier after the game than Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, who was heard boasting about the win as he made his way back to the locker room.
“Not so much (talking) anymore! Love this shit***,” he exclaimed.
However, there was much to criticise about the Eagles, whose offense was shut out in the second half to continue an alarming trend of inconsitency.
But head coach Nick Sirianni refused to worry and focused on the bright side, which was their defense.
“You got to give yourself points when you win. When you win football games, there’s always things to clean up when you come out of a football game,” Sirianni added.
“But if you come out of a football game where you win on the road in a hostile environment, man, they got really good fans, against a really good football team that’s had the sustained success that we have.”
The Eagles controlled most of the game, shutting down the Bills‘ offense for three quarters after taking a 13-0 lead at halftime.
However, they had to hold tight in the end as the Bills had a fourth quarter rally after Josh Allen scored back-to-back rushing touchdowns.
But the Bills saw Machael Badgely’s kick blocked, and Khalil Shakir failed to catch what would have been a game-winning two-pointer.
The Bills, who have already clinched a playoff berth, will end their regular season against the New York Jets in Week 18, while the Eagles have their finale against the Washington Commanders.
