Ja Morant is no stranger to controversy.

The Memphis Grizzlies guard has found himself in some more hot water after video footage emerged of him engaged in a heated argument with teammate Vince Williams Jr.

The Grizzlies are currently in Berlin, Germany ahead of their first of two international games set to be played against the Orlando Magic.

During practice on Wednesday, the 26-year-old was seen butting heads with Vince Williams Jr.

Allegedly, per an NBA fan page which has risen to social media fame due to lip-reading basketball interactions, Morant said to Williams Jr., “I don’t f**k with y’all, I’m with whatever,” to which he received a response of “Let’s go to the back.”

Morant then questioned, “Why? I’m right here,” before Williams Jr., reiterated, “Let’s go to the back.”

“You’ve been here for 5 minutes! You’re not like that,” Morant allegedly replied.

The exchange continued on, with the posted clip lasting 90 seconds.

Teammates can and went trying to break the pair up, but they continued to jaw back-and-forth with each other, with the intensity ramping up.

Having missed the last five outings with a calf injury, Morant is not expected to feature in the Berlin game.

In the 2025-26 NBA regular season, Morant has featured in just 18 games in which he has averaged 19.0 points – his fewest points per game since his rookie campaign – 3.2 rebounds, 7.6 assists and a steal per outing.

With the two-time All-Star having been in and out of the lineup with various injuries, Williams Jr. has shouldered some of the minutes vacated by his teammate.

Of his 25 outings this season, the 25-year-old has started 11 games, and has posted 7.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and a career-high 4.9 assists in 21.9 minutes per contest.

Morant and Grizzlies could be heading for divorce

Memphis selected Morant out of Murray State with the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft.

Once touted as a superstar and a future face of the league, Morant’s off-court behavior grew tiresome, with him suspended on two occasions in 2023 for incidents involving guns.

Cited by the NBA as conduct detrimental to the league, Morant initially face an eight-game suspension before being involved in a similar offence which ultimately saw him handed a 25-game ban.

Since the 2023-24 campaign, Morant has featured in just 77 outings, averaging 22.4 points shooting at a 44.5 percent clip, 4.1 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 1.1 steals.

But of late, chatter has grown that he and the Grizzlies’ relationship could be nearing an end.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Grizzlies – for the first time – are entertaining trade offers for their star guard.

Morant is currently under contract through the 2027-28 season, and will earn north of $40 million in the final two years of his five-year, $197 million max deal.

Having previously stated that he no longer found joy playing for Memphis, the Miami Heat have emerged as a potential landing spot for the All-NBA point guard, with mutual interest having reportedly been expressed.

These rumors have been fueled further by reports that Morant purchased a home worth $3.2 million in Miami just before Christmas – just a 20 minute drive away from the Kaseya Center.

When asked questions surrounding his future with the Grizzlies organization on Thursday and the trade talks that comes along with it, Morant could muster just three words, “Live with it.”
