Star all-rounder Riyan Parag is likely to be named the new skipper of the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026. The franchise has come to a decision after the head coach-cum-director of cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, had interviewed several players, and Parag was the most suitable candidate they finalised for leading the team in the marquee 20-over tournament.

Notably, this is not the first time that Parag will be seen donning the captain's hat for RR; he has done so during the eight matches of IPL 2025 where the mainstay skipper Sanju Samson could not be fully available. Although the Guwahati-born managed to lead RR to victories in only a couple of these matches, it was his batting that shone the brightest, including his best of 95 against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
