Ian Rapoport’s ‘Avengers’ team-up with Adam Schefter locked in for long haul with new ESPN contract

Despite earlier speculation, NFL insider Ian Rapoport is staying with ESPN after signing a new contract, meaning he will team up with Adam Schefter.

Front Office Sports reports that Rapoport and ESPN are finalizing a deal to keep the NFL insider at the network. Earlier in the year, ESPN acquired NFL Network, and now Rapoport becomes the first of the newly acquired talent to sign a new deal.

According to the report, ESPN is “excited” to have Rapoport and Schefter on its roster. Rapoport will “appear across ESPN platforms” while also continuing his work for NFL Network.

Rapoport has been with NFL Network since 2012. Before that, he covered the New England Patriots as a beat reporter for the Boston Herald.

It will likely continue to be business as usual for Rapoport and Schefter, despite the former’s new deal. They are two of the most notable NFL insiders, and they’ll continue breaking stories while on the same network.

Perhaps they will share the screen now that they’re on the same network. That would make for some interesting TV, as there could potentially be two news breaks at the same time.

Previously, while Rapoport was still negotiating his new contract, he compared a potential team-up with himself and Schefter to the Avengers.

“If we were to work together, I think that would be awesome,” Rapoport said. “I have no idea if it’s gonna happen. But, you know, it’d be like The Avengers.”

At the time, even Rapoport was uncertain of how it would all work. He knew they’d be doing “similar things” as Schefter while “under the same umbrella.” Even then, he appeared okay with that possibility.

The details of the contract Rapoport signed with ESPN are being kept under wraps. However, it appears that he is satisfied with whatever was offered.
