How Knicks’ Deuce McBride stays ‘confident’ amid Finals shooting woes vs. Spurs

Miles McBride was one of the New York Knicks’ most important role players during the regular season, but following his extended shooting struggles and the emergence of trade deadline acquisition Jose Alvarado, the man they call “Deuce” has seen his playing time decrease over the course of the playoffs. He is just 4-of-20 from the field through five games of the NBA Finals, resulting in him logging only 16 minutes combined in the last two contests versus the San Antonio Spurs.

The 25-year-old guard is not panicking, however. He is focused on making himself valuable by contributing in other areas. McBride is not shying away on offense, either, though.

“I’m always going to stay confident, knowing I can impact the game a lot of different ways,” he told reporters on Friday, per the SNY Knicks X account. New York has several players who can get buckets at a minute’s notice. What head coach Mike Brown needs is intensity from his bench. Enter McBride.

The former West Virginia star has relied on work ethic and tenacity to stick in the Knickerbockers’ rotation over the last few years, and he is not going to let the blindingly bright lights emanating from the grand NBA Finals stage intimidate him now. No one will remember his past statistics if he helps end a 53-year drought this weekend.

Deuce McBride may not fix his slumping jumper by Saturday’s Game 6 face-off with the Spurs, but he will show some fight regardless. This potential championship-clinching contest will tip off at around 8:30 p.m. ET in Frost Bank Center.
