Heat’s Bam Adebayo fires back at haters of 83-point game because it was vs. Wizards

Bam Adebayo may not jump off the page in terms of scoring, but there’s a reason why he’s a superstar in the best basketball league in the world. The Miami Heat star shocked the world after he scored 83 points, becoming the owner of the second-highest scoring game in the history of the NBA, to lead the team to a 150-129 win over the hapless Washington Wizards.

While the Wizards did not represent the toughest of oppositions, especially when they’re looking to lose games towards the end of the season to gain better lottery odds, this accomplishment should not be diminished. After all, only three players in the history of the NBA has crossed the 80-point mark, and Adebayo made that clear with the way he carried himself after the game.

“You talk about how they don’t play defense but they’re an NBA team at the end of the day,” Adebayo told SportsCenter’s Scott van Pelt.

Indeed, the Wizards are not a very good team. But they have capable defenders and have players who are in the NBA for a reason. But for some unknown reason, Washington could not stop fouling the Heat star, which allowed him to rack up points even when he was facing double or even triple teams towards the end of the game.

Would Adebayo’s 83-point night mean more if it came against a team with a better record? Not really. Adebayo still had to go through hoops just to score 83 points, and the Wizards made him work for his buckets, especially during the second half.

Is it Adebayo’s fault that the Wizards could not stop hacking him? All he was doing was his job. He made those field goals. He made those buckets. And it’s his name that will forever reside in the NBA’s record books.
