Harry Kane reveals first conversation with Vincent Kompany that predicted ruthless Bundesliga run
Harry Kane has hailed Vincent Kompany’s ‘mentality’ as a key factor behind Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga dominance.
The German giants have lost just twice in the league since Kompany was appointed in the summer of 2024, both of those losses coming last season.

Their latest outing saw them inflict a 5-1 thrashing of fifth-placed RB Leipzig on Saturday.
The result leaves Bayern 11 points clear at the top of the table as they chase a second consecutive title.
Kompany’s side won the Bundesliga by 13 points last season as they bounced back from a disappointing campaign under Thomas Tuchel.
Their third place finish in the 2023/24 season represented their lowest final league position since 2011 as well as ending their run of 11 league titles in a row.
So far this term, Bayern have dropped just four points across their opening 18 outings.
Kompany’s message to Kane
Kane believes their run of form stems from the message he received from Kompany the first time they spoke.
Speaking to Bild, the England captain explained: “I remember my first phone call with the coach when he took over the job at Bayern.
“Even then, he told me that we would be merciless with all our opponents.”
The 32-year-old was on the scoresheet at the Red Bull Arena to take his tally under Kompany to 73 in 79 appearances alongside 24 assists in that time.
Kane added: “It’s the mentality that the coach brought here.

“From the very first moment, he said, ‘If we’re one goal ahead, we’ll go for the second. And if we’re three ahead, we’ll go for the fourth’.
“That’s our mindset. It’s already evident in the way we train. There’s real competition and we bring that onto the pitch in the games.”
Kane once again tops the Bundesliga’s scoring charts this season with 21 goals to his name, more than double the tally of his nearest challenger.
The former Tottenham Hotspur striker has won the award in each of his first two seasons in Germany.
As for Kompany, the Belgian is under contract at Bayern until the summer of 2029.
Since his arrival, he has won 63 of his 84 matches in charge across all competitions.

Of those fixtures, only ten have ended in defeat, with Bayern currently on a run of eight wins in their last nine across the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Champions League.
As well as being top of the league domestically, Kompany’s side also sit second in the Champions League league phase standings.
Bayern, who trail Arsenal by three points, have won five of their opening six matches to guarantee a spot in the knockout stages with two matches remaining.
The six-time winners host Union Saint-Gilloise on Wednesday ahead of a Bundesliga clash with Augsburg next weekend.
