Guardians’ Travis Bazzana picks perfect walk up song for MLB debut

The Cleveland Guardians’ No. 1 prospect, Travis Bazzana, made his MLB debut in Tuesday’s contest against the Tampa Bay Rays. Upon approaching the plate, the Australian native picked the perfect walk-up song for his first-career at-bat.

While walking up to the plate, the 23-year-old second baseman chose the song “Down Under” by Men at Work, a popular rock band based in Australia. The No. 16-ranked overall prospect in the MLB Top 100 Prospects List showed off his Australian roots as he made his professional baseball debut.

It’s not every day a prospect makes his major league debut. Especially a prospect coming out of Australia. Bazzana turned heads during the World Baseball Classic, serving as one of the key contributors for Team Australia.

It’s been a long time coming for Bazzana, who began his baseball journey at just 15 years old when he began his playing career in the Australian Baseball League in 2018. From 2018 to making his MLB debut, Bazzana has played in Australia, in college baseball for the Oregon State Beavers, and in the minor leagues.

Known for his patience at the plate, Travis Bazzana has an opportunity to become an important piece in the Guardians’ offense while he continues developing as a defensive player. His hitting abilities have been what have projected him throughout most of his early career, as he has the tools to be a plus hitter with average power who can generate walks.

Travis Bazzana joins the Guardians with three years of experience playing at the minor league level. During that time, Bazzana recorded 125 hits, 14 home runs, 61 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases, giving himself a .252 batting average and .391 OBP.
