Giants insider hints at another move coming after signing Dexter Lawrence replacement

Nine days after sending Dexter Lawrence II to the Cincinnati Bengals, the New York Giants signed 11-year veteran Shelby Harris to fill the void in their 2026 defensive roster. They might not be done making moves in that department, either.

While the Giants know there is no replacing a player like Lawrence, they will try to do so by finding as many quality bodies as they can plug into the center of their defense. They continue to monitor the veteran defensive tackle market and “might not be done” after signing Harris, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.

Adding Harris is a start. The 34-year-old has spent the last three seasons with the Cleveland Browns, notching 32 tackles, one sack and seven tackles for loss in 2025. Although he started just five games in 2025, Harris started 13 of his 14 games in 2024.

The Giants were always expected to add veteran defensive tackles to their roster after drafting just one — Bobby Jamison-Travis in the fifth round — over the weekend. In addition to Harris, New York brought in D.J. Reader and Benito Jones for visits earlier in the month, among others. They were reportedly waiting until after the draft before making any signings official.

Reader and Jones are two of the more experienced options still on the market. Larry Ogunjobi, Calais Campbell, DaQuan Jones, Kevin Givens and Austin Johnson would each also make quality additions.

The Giants currently have seven interior defensive linemen signed to their roster, including Harris. Darius Alexander, Roy Robertson-Harris and Elijah Chatman all return, while the team has so far added Sam Roberts, Marlon Tuipulotu and Jamison-Travis to the group.
