Former Manchester United assistant becomes strong contender for Championship job
Minnesota United coach Eric Ramsay is a strong contender to become West Brom’s new manager, talkSPORT understands.
Welshman Ramsay was among the candidates to replace Liam Rosenior at Strasbourg before Gary O’Neil’s appointment.

The 33-year-old could still change clubs this month, though, following almost two years in the MLS.
Prior to being appointed by Minnesota in March 2024, Ramsay served as an assistant manager at Manchester United.
During three years at Old Trafford, he worked under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag.
As for West Brom, the Baggies are without a manager after parting ways with Ryan Mason on Tuesday.
It came after their dramatic late Championship defeat to Leicester the previous evening.
Abdul Fatawu’s winner in the fourth minute of stoppage-time consigned West Brom to a tenth consecutive away defeat.
Mason’s final loss in charge leaves the club 18th in the table after 26 matches and just seven points clear of the relegation zone.
The 34-year-old was only appointed in the summer having secured his first senior managerial role after spending his entire coaching career at Tottenham Hotspur.
James Morrison is currently in interim charge as the club searches for a new permanent boss.
The former Baggies midfielder is set to be in the dugout for Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie away to Swansea.

Who is Eric Ramsay?
Ramsay guided Minnesota to a fourth place finish in the MLS’ Western Conference in 2025.
In doing so, he equalled their highest ever Conference finish since joining the league nine years ago.
However, they were ultimately beaten in the MLS play-offs by San Diego at the quarter-final stage.
Minnesota are not scheduled to begin the 2026 MLS regular season until February.

As well as his time at United, Ramsay served on Rob Page’s Wales backroom staff during 2023 prior to heading to the USA.
His coaching career has also included roles at Swansea, Shrewsbury and Chelsea over the last 12 years.
Ramsay was previously interviewed by Southampton back in April following their relegation.
However, the Saints ultimately appointed Will Still as their new manager in the summer.
