Fever’s Catilin Clark labels health ‘most important thing’ headed into training camp
The Indiana Fever are coming into training camp healthy after having several players injured toward the end of last season. Despite the injuries, the Fever were still able to get past the first round, but eventually lost to the Las Vegas Aces. Caitlin Clark was one of the players sidelined and didn’t play much during the second half of the season.
Clark is coming back this season with one thing in mind, and it’s making sure she’s available.
“Taking care of my body at this point in the season is probably the most important thing,” Clark said via ESPN’s Kareem Copeland. “Whether that’s recovery, whether that’s pre-court treatment, whatever it is. I think it’s those type of things.”
Clark suffered a left quad sprain last training camp, and she was sidelined for two weeks to start the season. She then returned and suffered a left groin sprain, as well as a right groin injury. After that, she had a bone bruise in her left ankle. It’s safe to say that she was truly never healthy last season, which was something that was very different from what she’s been used to.
“Very intentional about the things that I’m trying to do,” Clark said. “As a young person, you just grab your basketball shoes, and you’re like, oh, let’s just get up on the court and lace them up and go play. And that wasn’t obviously something that was going to help me through the longevity of my career.”
Clark has been healthy for most of the offseason, and she was able to participate in USA Basketball national team training camps and the World Cup qualifying tournament. She was able to remind everyone what she could do when she’s fully healthy, and the hope is that the trend can continue this season with the Fever.
