  • Stuttgart v Young Boys

Aston Villa are one of two teams, alongside Lille, to have already booked their place in the last 16 of this season’s Europa League having won six of their seven matches in the competition so far.

This week, Unai Emery’s side now have the chance to go one step further and secure the top two finish which will guarantee their having home advantage in the second leg of each knockout fixture through to May’s final in Istanbul.

The Villans welcome Austrian side Salzburg to Villa Park on Thursday, knowing a victory would guarantee their top two finish.

Nottingham Forest face a tough test in their final league phase fixture of their first season in European football in 30 years, welcoming seventh placed Ferencvaros, the Hungarian side managed by Robbie Keane, to the City Ground.

Sean Dyche’s men sit 16th in the table following last week’s defeat in Braga and with the top eight perhaps out of reach now, a seeded place in the knockout phase play-offs, and a home second leg, is their most realistic target, for which they must retain their top 16 place.

Forest are only ahead of Czech side Viktoria Plzen on goals scored so may need a win, and preferably a big one, to guarantee their place home second leg against a team finishing between 17-24 in the table.

Celtic welcome an already eliminated Utrecht side to Parkhead on Thursday, with Martin O’Neill’s side sat precariously in 24th place, the final position that qualifies for the knockout phase play-offs.

The Glasgow side know a win against their Dutch opponents would guarantee their place in the knockout round as they look to extend their European journey in what has been a tempestuous campaign for the Bhoys so far.

Rangers make the trip to Lisbon to take on Porto as one of six teams to have had their elimination already confirmed heading into Thursday’s bumper round of Europa League fixtures having lost five of their seven fixtures so far.
