ESPN insider ‘ready to fight’ anybody hating on Rams’ Ty Simpson pick
The Los Angeles Rams’ decision to draft QB Ty Simpson was the most controversial decision of the 2026 NFL Draft. As a result, the LA’s draft class is being panned by national analysts who disagree with the move. But one analyst is ready to do whatever it takes to stand up for Simpson and the Rams.
ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum made a bold statement in defense of the Simpson pick on Tuesday.
“I am ready to fight anybody who says this wasn’t one of the greatest decisions we’ve seen in recent memory,” Tannenbaum declared via Get Up. “You think about the Green Bay Packers going from Favre to Rodgers, Rodgers to Love, those were decade-long positive decisions. You can ask the Pittsburgh Steelers guys how easy it is to replace a franchise quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger.”
Tannenbaum is not the only analyst defending the Simpson pick. ESPN’s Dan Graziano argued that LA does not have any other pressing needs on the roster beyond quarterback. But that should not have stopped them from considering adding a playmaker at a different position.
Ultimately, Tannenbaum argued that the Rams needed to capitalize on the rare opportunity of picking in the first half of the first round.
“They’re not going to be drafting very high for the foreseeable future,” Tannenbaum added. “They are playing chess, a lot of other teams are playing checkers. By the way, at 38 years old with a bad back, it’s not inconceivable that Ty Simpson’s on the field during a 17-game season. So this should pay off for a long, long time.”
Simpson will be under a lot of pressure once he eventually takes the field in LA. Hopefully Simpson uses that pressure as fuel to take his game to the next level.
