Enzo Fernandez open to leaving Chelsea as dream move to European giants revealed

Enzo Fernandez is open to a move to Real Madrid this summer, talkSPORT understands.

talkSPORT has learned a transfer to the Bernabeu would be viewed as a dream move for the Chelsea vice-captain.

Real have not yet made a formal move or started any talks as they continue to shortlist midfield targets for the summer.

When will Fernandez’s future be resolved?

This was also confirmed by Argentine World Cup winner when asked about his future while on international duty with Argentina.

“We’ll see after the World Cup,” said Fernandez when asked about his future.

“We’ve had zero talks as of now. Honestly, nothing yet [with Real Madrid]. Now I am focused on Chelsea and what’s left in the last few games this season.”

Which other clubs could try to sign Fernandez?

Fernandez has also been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Arabia.

talkSPORT understands his preference is a switch to LaLiga, and that PSG have not taken any steps to try and sign the Chelsea midfielder despite several reports.

Fernandez does have genuine interest from Al Ittihad but is not open to Saudi Arabia at this stage of his career.

Why is Fernandez open to a move away from Chelsea?

Chelsea don’t want to lose Fernandez and he has not directly told the club he wishes to leave.

However, talkSPORT has learned Fernandez was disappointed by the manner of Enzo Maresca’s exit and is actively exploring options without outright agitating for a transfer away.

Fernandez wishes to play Champions League football with regularity and how he approaches the summer may be influenced by whether Chelsea qualify again for that tournament.

Chelsea sources remain calm about the situation.

Fernandez is contracted until 2032 having already had a club-option on his long-term contract triggered.

Chelsea not only view Fernandez as not for sale but are willing to offer the 25-year-old fresh terms.

Some initial conversations over a new deal have begun but the parties are not advanced or close to any agreement.

Chelsea signed Fernandez from Benfica in January 2023 for a then British transfer record £107million, and even if the Blues were to U-turn on their current stance, no sale would be sanctioned for a book loss.

Given Chelsea hold all the cards, that makes it complicated for Fernandez to leave Chelsea this summer, but the player is nonetheless open to doing so if Real Madrid come calling.
