England unveil World Cup 2026 kits as Nike make huge 18-year change to away strip

England have released their new home and away kits for 2026 ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Boss Thomas Tuchel is looking to end the Three Lions’ 60-year trophy drought following back-to-back defeats in European Championship finals.

Just hours after Tuchel named his 35-man squad for the upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan later this month, England have now unveiled their new strips.

England’s association with Nike

It will be the fourth time England have worn Nike kits at a World Cup having first done so in 2014, with their partnership beginning in 2013.

For England’s home shirt, which is a modern version of the classic white top, a Three Lions design is embedded into the fabric of the jersey.

And in a nod to the national anthem, the words ‘Happy and Glorious’ are printed on the inside of the collar.

A gold star will be above the badge for England’s home kit for the first time in 13 years.

The star, which signified England’s lone World Cup win in 1966, had been white or silver on previous Nike kits.

White shorts and socks will accompany the top, with there being no purple element of the St George’s flag – a controversial feature on the Euro 2024 shirt.

In a bold new-look away kit, England will wear red, accompanied with black shorts and red socks.

Unlike with the home strip, a centralised badge is on show.

England have not had a centred badge on the away shirt since 2008, when they were sponsored by Umbro.

There is also a subtle pattern in the fabric featuring a blend of lions and stars from the crest.

The kit is rounded off with navy sleeve and neck cuffs as well as a navy stripe on the side.

As it stands, England will wear Nike for one more World Cup after this year’s tournament having signed a contract until 2030, with the deal estimated to be worth a whopping £400million.

And a pre-match shirt has also been leaked, which features a stained glass window graphic design.

It also includes a picture of what appears to be a saint on the front of the kit.

Tuchel’s side begin Group L campaign against Croatia on June 17.

England then face Ghana on June 23 before they round out the group stage with a clash against Panama.

Of course, there’s a chance England’s new away kit never gets worn at this year’s World Cup if the 2022 edition was anything to go by.

The Three Lions only sported their white home shirt, despite having both kits available in Qatar.

There is a chance of a kit clash in all of England’s group stage fixtures at this year’s World Cup.

Croatia’s home kit has traditionally been red and white, Ghana’s home kit is white while Panama’s national colours are red, white and blue although they are yet to unveil their World Cup kits.

England are listed as the away team in only one of their group fixtures, which is against Panama.
