Diamondbacks’ Nolan Arenado drops admission on early-season performance

The St. Louis Cardinals traded Nolan Arenado to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the offseason. With his debut season with his new organization underway, the 14-year veteran shares his honest admission about performance so far in the 2026 campaign.

While talking with media members in the locker room, the 35-year-old third baseman opened up about what he’s been working on to continue improving early in the season, according to Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports. It sounds like he is simply focusing on the basics.

“I’m just trying to get back,” said Arenado. “And try to load a little earlier. But make a decision. Put a lot of work in the cage with my leg kick, toe tap kind of thing. Just trying to get myself a chance to recognize it and be ready to attack.”

Nolan Arenado has been hot and cold to begin the season so far. He’s had his moments, but consistency wouldn’t be the word to describe his performance. Through 67 at-bats, the eight-time All-Star has recorded 15 hits, three home runs, and 11 RBIs, giving him a .224 batting average and .232 OBP.

However, he seemed to get things rolling in the Diamondbacks’ 6-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. Arenado ended that contest with two hits, one of which was a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored through four at-bats.

He’ll have a chance to improve upon those numbers on Saturday when the Diamondbacks take on the Blue Jays again in the second matchup of a three-game series. That game is scheduled to begin at 8:10 p.m. EST.
