Coventry v Leicester prediction
Runaway Championship leaders Coventry head into this weekend in something of a rut in form for the first time this season, last weekend’s defeat at Stoke in the third round of the FA Cup leaving them with three defeats in their last four matches, and with only one win in six.
Despite their faltering results in recent weeks, Frank Lampard’s side still boast a six point lead at the top of the Championship table as they bid to reach the Premier League for the first time since their relegation from the top flight 25 years ago.
Even the Sky Blues’ long unbeaten run at home came to an end in their final game of 2025, a 2-0 defeat against Ipswich, their first home loss of the campaign in any competition, ending their eight match winning streak at the CBS Arena.
The West Midlands side still boast a healthy lead in the battle for promotion though, eight points clear of third placed Ipswich, and will be hopeful of returning to winning ways this weekend.
Leicester make the short trip to Coventry having won three of their last four matches following their 2-0 win over Cheltenham in the FA Cup on Saturday lunchtime, which will leave them in confident mood ahead of their visit to the potentially wounded league leaders.
Last week’s victory over West Brom in their most recent Championship outing saw Marti Cifuentes’ side climb back into the top half of the second tier table, where they now sit just four points off the play-off places, a gap they’ll be looking to close on Saturday.
Despite their good record in recent weeks, the Foxes have tended to struggle on the road this season, winning just one of their last five matches on their travels against Championship opposition, and suffering heavy defeats in each of their last two outings.
Coventry have won just one of their last nine matches against Leicester, though that sole victory did come in their most recent meeting in the West Midlands.
The Sky Blues’ lack of form combined with the Foxes’ current purple patch makes this a difficult game to predict, with the two still having contrasting records at home and away respectively – I think a thoroughly entertaining score draw may ensue, I’m predicting a 2-2 draw.
Coventry v Leicester betting tips
Sky Blues stalemate
Coventry boast a six point lead at the top of the Championship table but have lost three of their last four matches, which includes seeing their eight match winning streak at home come to an end as Lampard’s side begins to show signs of weakness for the first time.
Leicester, meanwhile, have won three of their last four games but have struggled on the road, losing each of their last two Championship away games, which I think points towards a stalemate on Saturday.
- Draw and both teams to score at 4/1 with Sky Bet
Simms on the scoresheet
No player on either team has scored more goals this season than Coventry striker Ellis Simms, who reached double figures for the campaign in last week’s defeat against Birmingham, his second in as many league games in 2026.
- Ellis Simms to score at 16/11 with 247Bet
Kitching carded
Coventry defender Liam Kitching has been on the receiving end of more yellow cards than any other player on either team. The centre back has been cautioned in three of his last four matches, taking him to eight booking for the campaign.
- Liam Kitching to be carded at 3/1 with bet365
