Championship match descends into brawl after provocative Frank Lampard gesture
Frank Lampard was at the centre of a post-match brawl following Coventry’s 1-1 draw at Southampton on Saturday lunchtime.
The Sky Blues’ boss was confronted by Southampton players after the final whistle when Lampard appeared to sarcastically gesture towards the home support.

The 47-year-old gave a thumbs up to a section of the crowd at St Mary’s which may have been in response to something directed at him.
Southampton forward Leo Scienza disapproved of the antics and was first on the scene to speak to Lampard.
Multiple other Saints’ stars attempted to reach Lampard only to be stopped in their tracks by members of Coventry’s staff.
Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis, who also happens to be Roy Keane‘s son-in-law, was seen getting particularly vocal with the Chelsea legend.
It led to tensions boiling over with players from both clubs involved in a heated exchange on the pitch.
Speaking afterwards, Lampard suggested his gesture towards the Southampton fans was triggered by some bad language.
He told Sky Sports: “That’s how I am, heart on my sleeve.”
Lampard added: “I apologise for my language, maybe their stand will apologise for theirs.”
His Championship leaders were able to hold on after being reduced to ten men for most of the second-half.
Ephron Mason-Clark put Coventry in front before Jay Dasilva was sent off on 47 minutes.
Nathan Wood equalised for Saints shortly afterwards but they could not find a winner despite the man advantage.
