Cameron Menzies turns to UFC star’s hypnotherapist after shock Ally Pally outburst
Cameron Menzies has revealed the unique approach he has taken to handling the mental aspects of darts.
The Scot has turned to a hypnotherapist after his on-stage outburst after exiting the PDC World Darts Championship.

Menzies punched a table and appeared to try and burn his hand after losing to Charlie Manby in the first round at Alexandra Palace.
The incident left the 36-year-old with no feeling in his fingers as a result of his actions.
However, he has now explained how working with a hypnotherapist has been a ‘massive help’.
Menzies is not the only sportsman to use the approach, though, with UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall also amongst their clients.
Menzies uses UFC hypnotherapist
Speaking via Oche180, the world No.28 explained: “There are a lot of players doing it that I don’t know the names of, but why not? If there are guys fighting for UFC championships.
“Sport is a mental game. I like it and I am working with a guy called Ecclestone. He is great with me and has been a massive help.
“Every night I have to listen to a little soundtrack. The only issue is he is from northern England, so his accent isn’t the greatest.
“That is coming from a Scotsman, but he has been brilliant. He does it with boxers and Tom Aspinall.
“I have never left an appointment feeling bad. I have always done the whole hypnotherapy thing feeling good about myself.
“It tries to make your life easier and talks to your subconscious. When things get hard, you always think of a bigger problem.

“What he does is try to simplify it and go with the small parts first, then take steps to go further. I have enjoyed it.”
Menzies continued: “One hour a week, that is all he gives me. We talk for 10 to 15 minutes before the hypnotherapy starts.
“Then we put the headphones in and it is like a little soundtrack and he talks to you.
“Nine times out of 10 he talks to your subconscious, which is the part of the brain you don’t think we need to work on.
“It is scary that you don’t realise there is more to the mind that we don’t know.
“I think it’s working, obviously. I have made my mistakes and I have to pay for it.

“I think with the PDPA they gave me eight weeks, but the guy wanted to do it more because he is a very good guy.
“He wants to keep it going and he says free of charge as well. It shows we are not just pub players anymore, we are professional athletes.”
Menzies’ use of a hypnotherapist is not the only change he has made in recent weeks.
He has also revealed he has made a series of new lifestyle choices after being diagnosed with a heart condition.
It has been almost a year since the last of Menzies’ two PDC title wins at Players Championship 11 in April 2025.
His next chance to end that wait will come in Leicester at Players Championship 7 on Monday.
