Beau Greaves is a threat to everyone – she is destined to be a darts major champion

Beau Greaves created darts history on Monday – and it won’t be long until she becomes the first woman to win a PDC major title.

That’s the view of darts player and pundit Laura Turner, who has waxed lyrical over the 22-year-old following her Players Championship 11 win.

Greaves beat Michael Smith 8-7 in the final in Milton Keynes to become the first woman to win a PDC ranking event.

She checked out 142 to seal the victory, closing with double 11, with Smith waiting in the wings on D10.

The three-time women’s world champion had earlier hit ‘The Big Fish’ in the ninth leg, as Greaves finished with an average of 96.49 and a checkout success of 80 per cent.

Emotional scenes followed after her incredible victory as a teary Greaves labelled it as one of her biggest accomplishments.

She also sent a warning to her rivals that, ‘maybe this is just the start,’ as she looks to become the first woman to win a PDC major title.

And she certainly played like one in the recent ProTour event, having beaten three world champions en route to her triumph.

Rob Cross, who won at Alexandra Palace in 2018, was dispatched 6-5 in the quarter-finals, before two-time world champ Gary Anderson was blown away 7-1 in the semis, with 2023 victor Smith then coming unstuck in the final showdown.

Greaves, who became the first woman to hit a PDC ProTour nine-darter at Players Championship 6 in February, is now up to 79th in the world rankings having scooped £15,000 with her win on Monday.

She is also on course to feature at the Players Championship finals in November as she moves to fifth in the order of merit following her impressive showing on the ProTour in 2026.

There’s Beau stopping her now

Discussing Greaves’ stunning achievement with Turner, talkSPORT presenter Harry Durham read off a quote from Greaves after she retained her Women’s World Matchplay title in July 2024.

Lacking belief that female darts players could make a dent in the men’s game, Greaves said: “I just don’t think we’ll ever be good enough to play against the likes of Luke Humphries, [Michael] van Gerwen, even [Luke] Littler.”

Durham was quick to insist that Greaves is more than good enough to make her mark in the men’s game having proved herself wrong by beating past world champions.

Turner then hailed Greaves’ qualities, as she remarked: “I think that possible shows where she was then in 2024 in terms of her mindset and how she felt in her ability, to how well she’s done coming up to two years [later].

“I think she’s always had that ability, I think most people have known that she’s always had that ability, but it’s down to the individual player to find that confidence.

“And now she’s finding that, she is proving she is a threat to absolutely anyone and everyone up on the oche.”

Turner added: “Beau is just at a different level, she is the best female darts player in terms of standard, consistency and performance than we’ve ever had. I’m glad she’s eating her words!”

Durham then posed the question as to whether Greaves will ever scoop a major PDC title in her career.

The answer? An emphatic yes.

Turner said: “Absolutely, I really do, I’m not saying it’s going to happen overnight, obviously.

“But, if you just look at the performances she’s had – even pushing Luke Humphries last year at the UK Open for example [10-7 defeat in fourth round].

“We know that she’s got those levels, she’s now picked up that Pro Tour [title].

“I do think it’s a development. I don’t say it to put pressure on her shoulders, if it happens, it happens.

“Some of the best players in the world have still not quite got across the line in regards to picking up a major title.

“But this is a massive step in the right direction for her, and again, it can just build confidence.

“She mentioned herself now that she’s hoping to transition these types of performances up onto the bigger stage.

“The more she gets to do it, the more comfortable I hope she will then feel in that environment, get used to those longer formats as well.”

Turner continued by saying: “Hopefully, when it comes to World Championship and other major tournaments, she’ll be qualifying for them.

“And hopefully we’ll start to make a few more inroads.”
