Bears legend Brian Urlacher takes firm stance on heated stadium debate
The Chicago Bears will look to build on their impressive campaign last season, wherein they ruled the NFC North for the first time since 2018 with an 11-6 record. The Bears also ended their four-year drought in the playoffs.
The optimism for the upcoming season, however, has been dampened after the team’s board of directors on Thursday voted to continue the plan to move out of Soldier Field and build a new dome 30 miles away in Indiana.
In a report from ESPN’s Courtney Cronin, Bears chairperson George McCaskey and CEO Kevin Warren claimed that the “world-class” project will “transform the region.”
On “This is Football,” Bears legend Brian Urlacher, however, was adamant that the team should remain in Soldier Field, which is an uncovered stadium, instead of playing in an enclosed venue.
“I do not like the Bears playing anywhere but Soldier Field. Even when they went to Arlington Heights, which is in Illinois, they’re gonna be in a dome. I think if they go to Indiana, they’re gonna be in a dome. I don’t like the idea of them playing in a dome anywhere,” said Urlacher.
“It’s only the advantage the Bears have, honestly. If you go to Soldier Field in November or December, it’s gonna suck. The weather’s not gonna be good. You’re not gonna like it. Playing there, you practice in it, you get used to it, there’s an advantage to that.”
Brian Urlacher on This Is Football had the best Chicago Bears stadium take I've seen.

Why? The Bears belong OUTDOORS.

The five-time All-Pro noted that he understands why moving to Indiana “makes a ton of sense” financially for the Bears, whose lease at Soldier Field runs through 2033.
Urlacher, who played as a linebacker, starred for the Bears from 2002 to 2012, becoming an eight-time Pro Bowler. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018.
Fans are largely opposed to the Bears leaving the Windy City. Illinois, however, refused to finance a new stadium in the state.
