The Board of Control for Cricket in India is set to conduct a detailed review of India’s campaign in the Under-19 Asia Cup following a shocking 191-run defeat to Pakistan in the final. The loss, which came in a clash in Dubai, has led the board to seek clarity on both on-field decisions and the overall conduct of the team, especially with the Under-19 World Cup scheduled early next year.

The decision to review the team’s performance was taken during an online Apex Council meeting held on Monday, December 22. Members of the council discussed India’s performance across the tournament and agreed that explanations were needed after the one-sided final against their arch-rivals. According to reports, the BCCI will seek a detailed report from the team manager and is also expected to hold discussions with head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar and captain Ayush Mhatre.

While India reached the final with a mixed run, the manner of the defeat has raised concerns within the board. There have also been reports regarding player conduct during the tournament, although it remains unclear whether this aspect will formally be included in the review process. The BCCI’s proactive approach is largely driven by the need to identify and address shortcomings well ahead of the 2026 Under-19 World Cup.

The game began with skipper Ayush Mhatre choosing to bowl first. Pakistan opener Sameer Minhas made full use of the conditions, producing 172 off just 113 deliveries. His innings, which included 17 boundaries and nine sixes, was the highest individual score by any batter in a Youth ODI final. Minhas found support from Ahmed Hussain, who scored 56 off 72 balls. The pair added 137 runs for the third wicket, guiding Pakistan to a total of 347 for 8 in 50 overs. India managed to pick up wickets in the death overs, including three by Deepesh Devendran.

In reply, India’s chase began at a good pace through Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who smashed 26 off just 10 balls. However, once he edged Ali Raza behind, the team faced a collapse. By the end of the powerplay, India were already five wickets down. Pakistan’s Ali Raza led the attack and finished with figures of 4 for 42.

India was eventually bowled out for 156 in just 26.2 overs. Deepesh Devendran provided a late fight with a quick 36 off 16 balls, but no other batter managed to cross the 30-run mark. Pakistan’s comprehensive win sealed their maiden Under-19 Asia Cup title.
