Bayern Munich chief delivers Harry Kane contract update amid transfer bid claims

Bayern Munich are talking to Harry Kane about a new contract, but actual negotiations are yet to start.

That is according to the German giant’s director of sport Max Eberl who provided an update on the England captain’s future in Bavaria.

His current deal expires in the summer of 2027, meaning if Bayern don’t agree a new contract by the transfer window opening, he would only have one year left on his deal.

That would leave them open to a cut-price sale of their talisman striker.

Barcelona and Premier League sides have been linked with summer moves for Kane.

Barca are likely to replace Robert Lewandowski at the end of the season, so Kane coming in to replace him makes sense.

Equally, the top Premier League goalscorer record is within his grasp.

But Kane has made it clear that he’s loving life in Germany and is hoping to end this season with another Bundesliga title and the Champions League.

And Eberl had an interesting update on Kane’s contract.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the DFB Pokal quarter-final against RB Leipzig, Eberl said: “We are talking, that doesn’t mean negotiations have started. We are in intensive talks with Harry, then the next steps will follow.”

And on the possibility of a transfer bid, the Bayern chief was tight-lipped.

“I can’t comment on the rumours circulating that someone is preparing anything (on a transfer bid for Kane),” he said.

“All I can say is that we are in close contact with Harry regarding him and our success.”

Decision time

It was confirmed in January that talks had begun, but as of now there is no change in his situation.

Kane has insisted he is loving life in Munich and can’t see himself leaving.

Speaking on his future and the possibility of a new contract, he said: “Yeah, it is possible for sure. 100 per cent. These are conversations that need to be held, like I spoke on before the winter break as well.

“And I am sure they will happen, but my focus right now is on this season. There is a big opportunity. There is no place I’d rather be right now.”

There is still plenty of time left until the summer transfer window opens.

This means Bayern have quite a while to get Kane’s new contract sorted but they will almost certainly want to get it resolved.

Otherwise, his future would dominate the summer in every way.
