Barcelona vs Copenhagen predictions and betting tips – Barça must win to secure top-eight spot

Sitting just outside the top eight, Barcelona need a big Matchday 8 win to secure automatic qualification and avoid the playoffs.

Barcelona will host Copenhagen, who themselves haven’t given up hope of reaching the knockout stages, but the Danes will have to secure at least a point to have any chance of continuing their European adventure.

Barcelona vs Copenhagen predictions

With Barcelona one of eight teams locked on 13 points, the Catalans don’t just need to beat Copenhagen, they will need a high scoring win, as goal difference looks set to play a part in who finishes inside the top eight

Barça sit ninth in the table with a goal difference of +5. They trail PSG (+10), Newcastle (+10) and Chelsea (+6). The Catalans are level on goal difference with Sporting, but lead the Portuguese on goals scored. They also have a superior goal difference to Man City (+4), Atletico (+3) and Atalanta (+1).

Hansi Flick’s team are set to benefit from the fixture list as PSG and Newcastle are going head-to-head in their final match. Therefore a win by a larger margin than any of the four teams directly below them will see the Catalans finish in the top eight.

Barça’s record at home in the Champions League is good. They did suffer a 2-1 defeat in their first home match of the campaign, but it was to the reigning champions PSG. Since that loss they have thrashed Olympiacos 6-1 and also defeated Frankfurt 2-1.

On Matchday 7, Hansi Flick’s team beat Slavia Prague 4-2 on the road. They followed that with a 3-0 win over Oviedo in La Liga on Saturday.

The back-to-back wins were the perfect way to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat to Sociedad on January 18, a loss that ended a nine-match La Liga winning run.

It’s not just Barcelona that have plenty to play for on Matchday 8. Jacob Neestrup’s Copenhagen team also have ambitions of their own in the Champions League.

The Danes are obviously not expected to win the competition. But an impressive campaign has seen them pick up eight points, placing them 25th in the table, with only goal difference keeping them outside of the playoff places.

On the road they have picked up just three points. Defeats have come away at Qarabag (2-0) and Tottenham Hotspur (4-0). However, in their last away trip, they stopped the rot with a 3-2 win at Villarreal.

Closer analysis of their recent Champions League form shows that seven of their eight points have come in their last three matches. A run that culminated with an impressive 1-1 draw at home to Napoli last week.

Barcelona vs Copenhagen betting tips

A home win looks fairly predictable, meaning the odds on Barça’s are very short.

However, we’ve searched the best betting sites and found some good value wagers. Our Barcelona vs Copenhagen tips follow:

Goals expected in Barcelona win

All seven of Barça’s Champions League fixtures this season have produced over 2.5 goals. Four matches have featured three goals, two have seen six, and there were seven goals in their 6-1 home win over Olympiacos.

Barcelona to win with over 2.5 goals pays a paltry 1/3. Add a fourth goal and the bet pays a far better 3/4.

Three of Barcelona’s matches have covered over 3.5 goals, and we also have to take into account that the Catalans will be looking to improve their goal difference against the Danes.

Bookmakers underestimating Fermin Lopez

It is strange that Fermin Lopez is such a good price to score in the Champions League, given he is Barça’s top scorer in the competition.

Lopez is even money to score anytime. The Spaniard seems to continually be overlooked by the bookies, who in this same market have Robert Lewandowski at 2/5, Raphinha and Ferran Torres at 8/13, and Marcus Rashford, Toni Fernandez and Lamine Yamal at 8/11.

Lopez has scored five goals in his six Champions League appearances. He hit a hat-trick against Olympiacos on Matchday 3, and his two goals against Slavia Prague last week underline his current goal-scoring form, making him the standout pick among Barça’s attacking options.

Corners market looks promising

There have been a total of 34 corners in Barcelona’s previous three matches.

In Barcelona’s 3-0 home win over Oviedo at the weekend, the hosts had 73 percent of possession and ten corners, compared with Oviedo’s one.

Away at Slavia Prague in the Champions League last week, Barça weren’t quite as dominant. The Catalans had 59 percent possession and just four corners. There were nine corners in total, with the hosts winning five of them.

Even in their 2-1 La Liga defeat at Real Sociedad the previous week, Barça managed eight corners, with 14 in total in the match.

Over 9.5 corners is priced at 4/6, with over 10.5 available at 11/10. With Barcelona likely to be throwing everything at the Danes and having plenty of the ball, over 10.5 corners in the match looks the best value.
