Barack Obama sends rousing message to USMNT

The 2026 FIFA World Cup officially began on Friday at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles as the USMNT took on Paraguay. All the big wigs came out to show some support for the Americans.

Among those include Former President Barack Obama. On his social media page, the 44th President of the United States wished the Americans well.

“Let’s go Team USA! Good luck at the World Cup” Obama posted.

The Americans played before a sold-out crowd of passionate fans. They got off to a great start for the Americans with Paraguay scoring in their own goal, giving the Americans a 1-0 lead. Eventually, they increased the lead to 3-0. Ultimately, the Americans came away with a convincing opening match-up win, 4-1.

President Obama was president from 2009-2017. During that time, the World Cup was held in 2010 and 2014. In both years, the Americans made it to the Round of 16, but didn’t get past that.

Additionally, the Obama presidency inclued the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. It was then that the Americans came away victorious, winning their third tournament in their team history. The women’s team made a historic visit to the White House, where President Obama famously stated “playing like a girl, means you’re a badass.”.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is playing on American soil for the first time since 1994. Also, the Americans are looking to win their first tournament in history. The Americans will play their second game against Australia on June 19 in Seattle. Then, they will play Türkiye in the final group stage game in Los Angeles on June 25.
