Aston Villa v Wolves prediction

Aston Villa head into Sunday afternoon’s crunch West Midlands derby brimming with confidence after winning their fourth game in a row on Thursday evening with a 2-1 victory over Swiss side Young Boys in the Europa League.

Unai Emery’s side suffered a slow start to the season this time around but have since won 10 of their last 12 matches in all competitions, their 2-1 win at Leeds in their last Premier League outing taking them into the top four in the table.

The Villans currently find themselves just two points off the top two, but also only three points above 12th in an incredibly tightly congested Premier League table.

Emery’s men head into this weekend’s home clash having won their last seven matches at Villa Park, losing just one of their last 30 home games in all competitions, a run going all the back to October last year.

Wolves make the short trip to the Second City having endured a torrid time in the Premier League this season, picking up just two points from their 12 matches which leaves them rooted to the bottom of the table, already nine points from safety.

Rob Edwards took charge of his first game since being made manager last weekend, falling to a 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace after joining from a Middlesbrough side he’d taken to second in the Championship table at the time of his departure.

The Welshman has a big job on his hands to steer the Wolverhampton side to survival, and could make a big statement of intent on Sunday against West Midlands rivals Aston Villa.

Wolves head into the weekend having lost their last six matches in all competitions and haven’t so much as scored a goal in four of their last five league games.

Wolves have won only one of their last four games against Sunday’s opposition but did win the most recent match between the two sides back in February, though have fallen to defeat on each of their last two visits to Villa Park.

All the signs point towards an eighth consecutive home win for Aston Villa against the side rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table – I see a comfortable 2-0 home win on the cards.

Aston Villa v Wolves betting tips

Derby delight for Villa

Aston Villa have won their last seven home games in all competitions ahead of Sunday’s match and start the weekend sat fourth in the Premier League table ahead of the visit of a Wolves side with just two points to their name from their 12 league games this season.

Malen the man in form

No player on either team has scored as many goals this season as Aston Villa forward Donyell Malen, whose brace against Young Boys on Thursday night took him to six goals for the season, despite starting just seven matches, and four goals in his last four games.

All six of the Dutchman’s goals this season for Aston Villa have come in their last five home games.

Gomes goes in the book

Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes has been on the receiving end of more yellow cards than any other player on either team ahead of Sunday’s clash.

The Portuguese midfielder picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in all competitions in last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat by Crystal Palace.
