After months of speculation, it's finally happened: Zach Ertz has re-signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Reunited with the team he won a Super Bowl with in 2017, Ertz was asked at the Philadelphia International Airport what it means to return to the team that drafted him. On the field, the fit is obvious, but returning to the City of Brotherly Love runs deeper for the Ertz family.
“Yeah, I mean, my mom was in tears. My wife was ecstatic. My kids, they really don't understand. But I already had the boys practicing the E-A-G-L-E-S chant,” Ertz noted. “So overall, it was good. I mean, it's an exciting time. And like I said, just really happy to be back, and honored to be back in the Eagles green. But at the end of the day, I gotta go earn whatever role I can. So that's the goal right now.”

Asked how hard it will be to re-learn the Eagles offense now that Sean Mannion has put his own spin on the overall Nick Sirianni scheme, Ertz noted that in the NFL, the routes and everything are basically universal, it just comes down to what different coaches call them.
“We'll see, I mean, I've learned a lot of playbooks over the years,” Ertz said. “The routes are pretty much the routes. In the NFL, you kind of just call them different things. So it's about memorizing and getting up to speed as fast as I can.”
With Goedert expected to miss multiple weeks due to a Week 2 knee injury, it's more likely than not that Ertz will not only play on Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears but could get his first start with Philadelphia since 2021. Considering Ertz caught 66 balls for 654 yards and seven touchdowns for Washington last year, it's clear he can still contribute to the Eagles offense reunited with Jalen Hurts.
