The former India all-rounder takes up his first formal coaching role in the IPL, joining a setup now led by head coach Sourav Ganguly.
Delhi Capitals confirmed on October 13, 2026, that Yuvraj Singh has been appointed as their Assistant and Batting Coach ahead of IPL 2027. The announcement marks the former India all-rounder's first formal coaching role in the IPL.
Yuvraj Singh will work alongside head coach Sourav Ganguly, who was recently appointed to lead the Delhi Capitals coaching setup. Kiran Kumar Grandhi, Co-owner of Delhi Capitals and GMR Sports Founder, welcomed the appointment.
"We are delighted to welcome Yuvraj Singh to Delhi Capitals as our Assistant and Batting Coach. His remarkable career, competitive spirit and deep understanding of the game make him a tremendous addition to our coaching setup. This marks his first formal coaching role in the IPL, and we are confident that his insights, winning mindset and ability to mentor players will make a meaningful difference to our players and our campaign. We look forward to working closely with him and wish him every success as he begins this exciting new chapter with Delhi Capitals," Grandhi said in a press release.
What does Yuvraj Singh bring to the Delhi Capitals coaching setup?
Yuvraj Singh arrives with one of the most decorated playing records in Indian cricket. He represented India in 304 ODIs, 40 Tests and 58 T20Is, and was a central figure in the country's victories at the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.
His IPL career spanned 132 matches, during which he scored 2,750 runs and claimed 36 wickets, establishing him as one of the format's most impactful performers across multiple franchises.
Yuvraj also carries a direct connection to this franchise. He represented Delhi Daredevils, the club now known as Delhi Capitals, across all 14 matches of the 2015 IPL season. That auction saw the franchise secure his services for Rs 16 crore, a figure that set a new benchmark for the costliest purchase in IPL auction history at that point in time.
What is Yuvraj Singh's specific role within the Delhi Capitals structure for IPL 2027?
Yuvraj's appointment as Assistant and Batting Coach places him at the centre of the franchise's batting development programme ahead of IPL 2027. He will operate within a coaching structure that now has Sourav Ganguly at its head, bringing together two of India's most celebrated cricketers from the 2000s era in a single dugout.
This is the first time Yuvraj has held a formal coaching position in the IPL. His experience across all three formats, combined with his record as a match-winner in pressure situations, is expected to benefit the franchise's batting group as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Yuvraj also expressed his excitement at the prospect of beginning a new phase in his life and added that working with Sourav Ganguly is something he is looking forward to.
"I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals. I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me. I'm also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches. Coaching is something I am truly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this extremely talented squad. I'm sure it's going to be an exciting journey for me, and I look forward to contributing to the team's success," Yuvraj said.
