New York Yankees star Aaron Judge is not on the American League Wild Card Series roster as he deals with a calf injury. The Yankees are hopeful that Judge can return for the ALDS if they defeat the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card Series. However, a confusing moment occurred before Game 1 between the Red Sox and Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday.

The Yankees had their usual pregame introductions for the postseason. If the pregame introductions only included players on the active roster then not mentioning Judge would have made sense. However, New York announced multiple players who are not on the roster, but Judge was snubbed of an introduction nonetheless. In fact, Yankees beat reporter Bryan Hoch of MLB.com even admitted the situation was “odd” in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“Red Sox and Yankees are on the baseline. Odd that Aaron Judge wasn’t introduced. Other inactive members of the Yankees were,” Hoch wrote.
