HOUSTON -- The legend of Astros second baseman as one of baseball's greatest postseason performers of all time continues to grow.

Altuve, playing in his 107th career postseason game, launched his 28th career playoff homer in the fourth inning of Wednesday’s Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series at Daikin Park, hitting Houston’s third solo home run after the White Sox jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

Altuve, who narrowly missed a homer in the first inning with a single high off the left-field wall, sent a Sean Burke slider a Statcast-projected 353 feet into the Crawford Boxes to lead off the fourth. That put him one home run behind Manny Ramirez for the most homers in postseason history and four ahead of Kyle Schwarber, who slammed his 24th career playoff home run in the Phillies’ 4-3 win in Atlanta in 10 innings in Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series.

It was Altuve’s first postseason home run since Game 7 of the 2023 ALCS against the Rangers.

Altuve hit one of the biggest home runs in postseason history with a walk-off homer at then-Minute Maid Park to eliminate the Yankees in Game 6 of the 2019 ALCS. That’s one of 12 homers he’s hit in the ALCS in his career, to go along with 11 in the ALDS, four in the World Series and now his first in the Wild Card Series on Wednesday.

After Astros starter Hunter Brown gave up four runs in the first inning -- with the Astros making two errors behind him -- Jeremy Peña led off the first with a home run, and Cam Smith hit a 440-foot blast to left field in the second to make it 4-2. The Astros led the Majors in home runs this season.
