When news broke that Landon Dickerson was heading on injured reserve after looking hobbled in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders, fans of the Philadelphia Eagles turned to one man to replace the three-time Pro Bowler: Willie Lampkin.

Alright, technically Drew Kendall is likely above Lampkin on the depth chart, as he has more seniority on the team, but after watching the former Los Angeles Rams UDFA move bodies at will during the preseason, the idea of watching the 5-foot-10 offensive lineman make his NFL debut proves intriguing, especially against an All-Pro defensive tackle like Jeffery Simmons.

Asked about his status as a fan favorite by reporters on Wednesday, Lampkin noted that he hasn't really noticed the love because he isn't chronically online but still appreciates it all the same.

“No, not really. I don't really look at that stuff too much,” Lampkin said. “Just trying to stay grounded and just be where my feet are.”

Asked if he feels like fans have long gravitated to him because of his size, connecting with his underdog story a la Vince Papale, Lampkin wasn’t sure but appreciated the support he’s received from inside and out of the organization, as it’s allowed him to focus on being the best Eagle possible.

“I don't know. I don't know what to say,” Lampkin noted. “It's cool though. I appreciate everybody for showing me love. I just want to be the best that I can be so I can help this organization reach the top.”

Widely considered one of the best technical interior linemen in the 2025 NFL Draft, Lampkin ultimately went undrafted out of UNC because of his height, with more than a few talent evaluators wondering if he was simply too small to play at the NFL level. Coming out of camp, Howie Roseman and company felt confident enough in that technique to keep Lampkin on their 53-man roster, and if his number gets called in Week 2, fans will get their wish, witnessing the collegiate Tar Heel lined up against one of the best defensive tackles in the business.
