New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson has publicly backed head coach Kellen Moore despite recently criticizing the team's disappointing start. Her apparent vote of confidence comes days after Benson warned the Saints that their performances were unacceptable.
The Saints entered Week 6 with a 1-4 record, including three consecutive losses. Benson's earlier remarks raised questions about Moore's job security and the franchise's direction.
However, Benson appeared at Friday's practice to embrace Moore and express her support for the coaching staff, according to ESPN's Ian Rapoport.
The public endorsement reportedly indicated that no immediate coaching change was expected.
Her gesture contrasted with Tuesday's criticism, when she emphasized accountability throughout the organization.
“We are 1-4, and that is not acceptable to me, and falls short of what our fans truly deserve,” Benson said.
Despite her support, Benson maintained that improved performances remain essential.
“Words will not restore our fans' confidence. Our performance must do that,” she added.
The Saints have struggled defensively, allowing 30.2 points per game, the NFL's second-highest average entering Sunday.
Offensively, quarterback Tyler Shough and his teammates committed eight turnovers during their three-game losing streak.
Injuries have compounded those problems, with Travis Etienne and Kelvin Banks Jr. on injured reserve. Rookie receiver Jordyn Tyson has also missed time with a hamstring injury.
The Saints previously faced questions about their offensive struggles following their disappointing start.

New Orleans finished 6-11 in Moore's first season but won five of its final eight games, raising expectations for 2026.
For now, Moore retains ownership's support. However, continued losses could renew scrutiny of his position.
The Saints face the New York Giants on Sunday, providing another opportunity to respond on the field.
