Toss West Indies opt to bat vs Bangladesh
West Indies captain Roston Chase opted to bat first in the second Test against Bangladesh in Sylhet. West Indies were without in-form top-order batters John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, who were both ruled out "due to a viral fever", a Cricket West Indies statement said.
Kevin Wickham, the 23-year-old top-order batter from Barbados, was handed his Test debut, and listed at No. 3 in the team sheet. Wickham has scored 1472 runs at an average of 40.88 and hit six centuries in 25 first-class matches, with a top score of 153.
Joshua Da Silva returned to the side after missing the second Test against Sri Lanka and the first Test against Bangladesh. Although he was listed to play as an opener, he has never batted above No. 5 in Tests. Amir Jangoo, though, was listed as West Indies' wicketkeeper.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, also made two changes. They brought Mushfiqur Rahim and Taskin Ahmed back in place of Mominul Haque and Shoriful Islam, respectively. Mushfiqur had missed the first Test due to a finger injury, while Mominul is out of the second Test with a head injury.
West Indies are 1-0 up in the two-match series against Bangladesh, having comfortably won the first Test in Dhaka by eight wickets. This is West Indies' last Test in the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle, while Bangladesh still have series left against South Africa (away) and England (home).
