As the White Sox and Guardians finished off the series on Wednesday, the division race will still be on to watch, as one MLB insider gives insight into how Chicago is still in a good position to win the AL Central, despite losing its lead.

According to Bob Nightengale, he would say that while Cleveland has a half-game lead in the AL Central over the White Sox, Chicago is still in the “driver's seat.” The reason is that the White Sox have the tie-breaker because the head-to-head matchup record this season is a close 7-6.

“The Cleveland Guardians are back in first place in the AL Central for the first time since July 3 after their 6-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Cleveland has a half-game lead, but the White Sox still are in the driver's seat,” Nightengale wrote on X, formerly Twitter.”

“Cleveland: 78-75…Chicago: 77-75,” Nightengale continued. “While the two teams have the same number of losses, the White Sox have the tie-breaker advantage with their head-to-head matchup.”

There's no denying that with 10 games left, each win matters in the AL Central between Chicago and Cleveland, as up next for the White Sox is a series against the four-game slate against the Detroit Tigers, which starts Thursday. As for the Guardians, the team starts a three-game series against the Athletics on Friday.

At any rate, Chicago holds the final wild-card spot, with the Texas Rangers one-and-a-half games back, as more losses could lead to a disappointing postseason fate.
