Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is already enjoying one aspect of having Georges Niang on the roster: his nickname.

During the latest episode of the “Tom Tolbert Show,” Kerr called Niang's longtime “Minivan” moniker the “greatest nickname ever” while discussing the Warriors' roster and how the team's depth could help withstand injuries to Jimmy Butler III and Moses Moody.

“I do feel really good about the guys we have who have kind of filled out the back end of the roster,” Kerr said. “And I think they can help us hold down the fort until Jimmy and Moses get back second half of the year. The minivan. I love the minivan. It's the greatest nickname ever, right? Georges Niang.”

Niang joined Golden State in late August on a one-year, $3.9 million contract, giving Kerr another veteran option as the Warriors prepare for the 2026-27 season.

The 33-year-old forward has carried the “Minivan” nickname throughout his NBA career, a playful reference to his unconventional build and style of play. Now, the nickname has already earned Kerr's approval before Niang plays his first regular-season game with Golden State.

Kerr's comments on Niang came during a broader discussion about Golden State's roster entering the season. Earlier in the episode, the Warriors coach also addressed one of the biggest moves the franchise did not make this offseason: signing LeBron James.

Golden State had been connected to James during his free agency before the star forward ultimately signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. Kerr admitted that it “never really felt like” James was coming to the Warriors and characterized the possibility as more speculation than anything.

While Golden State missed on the opportunity to pair James with its veteran core, Kerr expressed confidence in the players the organization ultimately added to round out the roster.

Niang now enters training camp as part of that group, and while his impact on the court remains to be seen, “The Minivan” has already received a strong endorsement from his new head coach.
