The Philadelphia Eagles are looking vulnerable after Week 4. Philadelphia collapsed against LA, allowing 14 unanswered points in a 24-20 game ending in a fourth quarter meltdown. Unfortunately, the offense is still a mess despite the team's best efforts to improve.
ESPN's Ben Solak declared seven things he thinks he knows during his latest article. One of those topics was a grim warning about Philly's offense under OC Sean Mannion.
Solak noted that some of Philly's recent offensive struggles could be due to injuries.
“It's easy to explain away the Eagles' offensive output in Week 4 via absences. Right tackle Lane Johnson was a late scratch for personal reasons. Star wide receiver DeVonta Smith sat out because of a hamstring injury, and star running back Saquon Barkley left in the first quarter because of his own hamstring concern, Solak wrote. “But I don't think it's the temporary absences that mattered here — I think it was the predictable ones.”
Solak explained that the departure of A.J. Brown took away the team's largest big-play threat. The Eagles have yet to replace that skillset with anyone else. Their offense has predictably struggled as a result.
The Eagles also had no answers for all of the blitzes that the Rams sent their way in Week 4. If they cannot develop a solution, then other teams will use that blueprint until it stops working.
But can Philly find a way to improve?
Article Continues BelowSolak thought of that too, and referenced back to a point he made a few weeks about about the Eagles offense.
“The Eagles have yet to log a convincing win against two inferior opponents, and their overall team health has me pretty dubious … my overall expectations for the Eagles' offense will remain tempered until I see the line and the running game return to form,” Solak wrote back in September.
Since then the Eagles have struggled to run the football and have suffered even more injuries.
That puts Philadelphia under a lot of pressure as they prepare to travel overseas to play one of the NFL's best teams.
Eagles at Jaguars kicks off at 9:30 a.m. ET on Oct 11th from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
