New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury in August. The eighth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft participated on a limited basis, taking an important step toward making his NFL debut.
Tyson injured his right hamstring during a joint practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 13. He landed awkwardly after catching a pass and did not return to the session. New Orleans subsequently placed him on injured reserve on Aug. 30, guaranteeing that he would miss at least the first four games of the regular season.
His practice window to return opened Wednesday, giving the Saints an opportunity to evaluate his progress and determine how much work he can handle. However, head coach Kellen Moore has not confirmed whether the rookie will be available for Sunday's matchup versus the Cleveland Browns. New Orleans enters the contest with a 2-5 record.
Tyson offered an encouraging assessment of his recovery during his Wednesday media availability, describing the extended rehabilitation period as beneficial to his development.
“It's been pretty cool, because kind of just getting my foundation together, getting stuff aligned,” he said. “Kind of got a slow start to the NFL so I've got to take my time and really adjust to it, I feel like. So I feel it's been a blessing
“The strength staff and the trainers, they do a good job of load management. We've got the Zebra stuff so they can really track and see and compare to what I've been doing on the side. I think I'm pretty good.”

Tyson revealed that he recently recorded his fastest speed since beginning rehabilitation and believes he has become more explosive.
“I feel more explosive than I ever have,” he said. “So I think I'm doing pretty good. I think I'm doing just fine.”
The Saints had been cautious with Tyson even before his August injury, managing his workload throughout rookie minicamp, organized team activities and mandatory minicamp. His previous injury history included a hamstring problem at Arizona State, multiple ligament tears in his left knee in 2022, a collarbone fracture in 2024 and an ankle sprain in 2025.
After an extended hiatus, Tyson is keen to showcase his abilities on football's biggest professional stage. He also pointed to his blocking ability when discussing what he could contribute, an area that could be useful for a New Orleans offense currently ranked 28th in rushing yards.
With his return to practice underway, the Saints will evaluate his condition before deciding whether he can make his long-awaited debut against the Guardians in Week 9.
