On Monday evening, the Kansas City Chiefs will hit the field for the first time in the 2026 NFL season with a home game against the divisional rival Denver Broncos. The Chiefs are hoping for a good first game back for Patrick Mahomes, who went down toward the end of last year's disaster with an ACL injury but is seemingly healthy heading into the new campaign.

Recently, former NFL quarterback and current analyst Dan Orlovsky stopped by ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show and broke down what he wants to see from Kansas City in Mahomes' return.

“Do the Kansas City Chiefs go under center more in this game tonight?.. I think that would really help their offensive line,” said Orlovsky, per Pat McAfee on X, formerly Twitter.

Orlovsky isn't the first person who has floated the idea of the Chiefs going under center in order to help Mahomes ease back into things, as well as giving the offensive line an edge.

The Chiefs are sure to use a heavy dose of newly signed running back and reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III in this one in order to take some of the pressure off Mahomes. For a big chunk of last year, Mahomes himself was Kansas City's leading rusher, a stat that may or may not have played into the stress put on his ligaments that ultimately resulted in the tough injury.

Coming back against the Broncos' vaunted defensive front is clearly not an ideal first game back in the mix, but Mahomes has exhibited full confidence in his abilities and his injury recovery, heading into the matchup.

The Chiefs and Broncos are set to kick things off at 8:15 pm ET from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
