The Cleveland Browns are currently getting ready for their upcoming game on the road vs the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Deshaun Watson was unexpectedly added to the concussion protocol this week, potentially opening the door for Shedeur Sanders to start against the Saints if Watson isn't able to return in time.
Now, Sanders has spoken on the possibility of him starting vs. New Orleans.
“Overall, I'm just excited for the opportunity,” he said, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com on X, formerly Twitter.
Sanders also spoke on how his offseason reps will help him if he indeed gets the start on Sunday.
“I would definitely say it was important and valuable, just tapping back into that memory bank, having those reps and everything. That's why I'm thankful for this whole offseason and everything and just being out there with the guys each and every day,” he said, per Scott Petrak of the Chronicle-Telegram on X.
Many Browns fans were vocal in their desire for Sanders to be named the starting quarterback at the beginning of the season, although head coach Todd Monken ended up giving the job to Watson, who has since led the Browns to a surprising 5-3 record so far on the campaign.
Sanders indeed had plenty of reps during training camp and the preseason and should be able to hit the ground running without much change to the playbook if Watson is unable to go this weekend.
In any case, kickoff between the Saints and Browns is set for Sunday at 1:00 pm ET from New Orleans.
