A video of Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock engaged in a heated on-field exchange drew widespread attention during South Africa's 2nd ODI against Australia at Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, on September 27, 2026. The incident took place while Australia were batting and was linked to a DRS-related decision, with footage circulating on social media showing the two players in a visible disagreement.

The incident occurred in the 48th over of Australia’s innings when Lizaad Williams bowled a yorker to Xavier Bartlett. The ball struck Bartlett on the back leg, but the umpire initially turned down the LBW appeal, with the delivery appearing to be heading down the leg side. Williams wanted South Africa to review the decision, but Quinton de Kock appeared hesitant to go upstairs.

Temba Bavuma then stepped in and decided to take the review, leading to a brief heated exchange between the South African captain and wicketkeeper. Their teammates intervened and helped calm the situation. The review showed that Bartlett was struck in line and that the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps. South Africa's batting innings at Wanderers

Series result and Australia's chase

Australia's chase began strongly, with Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head putting on 130 for the opening wicket, both scoring half-centuries. However, the visitors could not sustain the required run rate throughout the innings and were eventually bowled out for 333 with two balls remaining. The total of 333 is recorded as Australia's highest score in a losing ODI run chase.

South Africa won the match by 32 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. It was South Africa's sixth consecutive bilateral ODI series win over Australia. The third and final ODI in the series is yet to be played on September 30.
