Kelsey Mitchell expressed surprise upon hearing the news about her making WNBA history in the Indiana Fever's blowout win over the Toronto Tempo on Friday night.

Mitchell is going through the ninth season of her WNBA career with the Fever. She made her way through the ranks to become one of their most important scorers, having them in the conversation of title contention this year.

In 33 minutes of action, Mitchell balled out in Indiana's first game back from the FIBA World Cup break. She led the team with a stat line of 33 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. She shot 12-of-17 from the field, including 7-of-11 from beyond the arc, and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.

This performance paved the way for to set a new WNBA record. She surpassed A'ja Wilson's 1,021 points in 2024 to now have the most points in a single season of all time. The news was very new to her as the ION postgame broadcast revealed to her the accomplishment.

How Kelsey Mitchell, Fever played against Tempo

Kelsey Mitchell showed out in dominant fashion as she led the Fever to a 103-85 road win over the Tempo.

Two players scored in double-digits for Indiana in the win, including Mitchell. Caitlin Clark came next with 28 points, 14 assists and six rebounds. She shot 7-of-15 overall, including 2-of-8 from downtown, and 12-of-12 from the charity stripe. Myisha Hines-Allen had nine points and seven rebounds, while Aliyah Boston provided eight points and five rebounds.

Indiana improved to a 27-14 record on the season, sitting at second place in the Eastern Conference standings. They are even with the Atlanta Dream for the top spot while being above the New York Liberty and the Washington Mystics.

Rolling with three consecutive wins, the Fever will look forward to their next matchup. They are at home when they host the Mystics on Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. ET.
